Nowadays, people are paying more and more attention to environmental protection, and environmentally friendly water-based paint is increasingly favored by consumers! Here are some common problems that may arise during the construction of water-based paint, and some solutions are provided to help you feel more at ease while renovating.

1. Peeling and delamination of water-based paint

Cause: The surface is too smooth, the coated object is not clean, the wood is rotten, the metal rust spots, the quality of water-based paint is poor, and so on.

If there are small areas of paint film peeling off from water-based paint on wooden or metal surfaces, fine sandpaper can be used to polish and then repaint for clear varnish, while local polishing or putty can be used for main color paint, and then repainted. If there is extensive peeling of the coating, the paint must be completely washed (scraped) off before reapplying.

2. Bubbling of water-based paint coating

Cause: Excessive moisture under or behind the water-based paint coating can cause bubbles to form on the coating film during the drying process (or exposure to sunlight). In this situation, first use a hot air spray gun to remove the bubbling paint film, then let the underlying wood dry naturally, and then apply primer locally.

3. Cracks appear

If the crack area is not large, you can use a sanding block or wet dry sandpaper dipped in water to remove the broken water-based paint. After smoothing the coating surface, apply putty, brush with primer, and then repaint.

4. Water based paint flowing

Brushing water-based paint too thick at once during construction can cause it to flow. You can use a brush to open the paint before it dries. If the paint film becomes dry, wait for it to dry completely. You can use fine sandpaper to smooth the paint surface, clean the surface, and then repaint it. Be careful not to brush too thick during construction.

5. Stains (for colored paint)

There are many reasons for the appearance of stains on the surface after the application of water-based paint. To prevent stains, a layer of anti rust primer can be applied before construction. If stains have already appeared, they can be removed first (such as latex paint, etc.), then a layer of anti rust primer can be applied before repainting.

6. Mold and discoloration

This problem often occurs in humid areas, such as when water vapor condenses on glass or metal surfaces and combines with paint film, resulting in brownish black stains. At this point, a fungicide can be used to treat the moldy area according to the instructions in the manual. After the mold is killed, the surface should be cleaned and then repainted.

7. Loss of luster

One of the reasons for this is that the primer may not have been applied, or the inner layer paint may have been applied directly with a half gloss or two gloss topcoat before it dried

Solution: First, grind off the old paint, wipe off the dust on the surface, wait for it to dry completely, and then repaint it.

Special reminder: When painting in environments with very low temperatures, the paint film may lose its luster after drying, which is known as poor film formation.

8. Wrinkling of paint film

It is usually caused by brushing the second coat of paint before the first coat is dry, also known as wet touch wet construction. At this point, the upper and lower layers interact with each other, causing wrinkles.

In this situation, chemical paint remover or heating method can be used to remove wrinkled paint film and repaint. Remember to wait for the bottom layer of paint film to dry completely before applying the second coat.

9. Rough paint surface

The roughness of the newly painted surface is usually caused by an unclean paint brush or construction environment, or it may be due to dust on the water-based paint film before it dries.

To prevent the above-mentioned problems, clean paint brushes and buckets must be used before using old paint, and it must be filtered. In addition, the painted surface should be covered with a cover or cardboard before the paint film dries to prevent dust from adhering.

If the paint surface is rough, wait for it to dry completely, use dry and wet sandpaper to polish it smooth, wipe it clean, and then reapply the topcoat.
